Leon is the pilot of the Space Angler. He is a beast from the planet Zou (pronounced Zoo / Zu), and had lost his parents in an interplanetary war 12 years prior to the F-Zero GX Grand Prix.
History[]
Before F-Zero X[]
Twelve years prior to the F-Zero GX Grand Prix (11 before F-Zero X), the planet Zou was attacked in an interplanetary war. The planet suffered in casualties, claiming the lives of Leon's parents. Orphaned at the age of 4, Leon was just one of the many orphans of his planet.
Sometime during the war, an enemy soldier of Zou, named Fable Animal, had grown angered by his own military's merciless tactics, and decided to instead help Zou. Hailed as a hero of Zou, Fable Animal would then design an F-Zero machine to give hope to the war torn planet, and had asked Leon to pilot it. For his planet and the orphans like himself, Leon would enter the F-Zero X Grand Prix.

Though Leon did not win, he was determined to try again the following year for the F-Zero GX Grand Prix. At some point before F-Zero GX, he had become the head of one of the orphanages on his planet, admired by the children. Keeping them in his heart as his motivation for winning, Leon remains determined.

Upon beating any Grand Prix on Master mode with the Space Angler, it will unlock a special video for Leon, which also features his theme song.
Leon is seen seemingly floating in an area, and clashes with a silver driver. He then jumps into a skating motion, then the scenery changes. He comes across a black cat in a box that meows at him, and it licks him as he picks it up. The silver driver, however, carries on.

Trivia[]
- Due to misconception thanks to the Nintendo of America F-Zero X website and its content, it was mistakenly believed that Leon was from the planet Kericho. In truth, he has always been from the planet Zou, as the planet name is mentioned as early as F-Zero X through the JP manual's content.
- Leon's GX pilot movie title shares its name with the song "Highway Star" by the English rock band Deep Purple.
- Between the events of F-Zero X and GX, Leon's left eye appears to be permanently closed. It is possible that he had lost that eye sometime between games, but no details are given on that fact. Additionally, Leon's more feline features in X have been altered to be more wolf-like by GX. However, these changes could simply be cosmetic.
