The Space Angler is a machine piloted by Leon / his Anime Universe counterpart.

In the Main Universe, it was designed by Fable Animal, a former enemy soldier of Leon's planet Zou, who eventually led the planet to victory.

In the Anime Universe, its origins are not exactly known but F-Zero Climax states that the Animeverse Space Angler was converted from 'an ordinary car.'

F-Zero GX[]

F-Zero GX Complete Guidebook (JP)
(English Translation by Sidier): It has a grip ability like that of a beast, stabbings its claws in the ground to run forward. Fable, the maker, used to be a soldier of the hostile army that attacked Planet Zu in the past, but he betrayed the gun and instead became the hero that lead Planet Zu to victory. After the war, he readied a machine and made Leon take part in F-Zero as a means to motivate the planet habitants, suffering from poverty.

Notes: Sidier translated the planet name as "Zu." The English rendition officially seen in F-Zero GX is spelled "Zou."

Fable, the creature that designed this machine, was once part of the forces that were attacking Leon's home planet of Zou. Furious over their merciless assault tactics, he betrayed those forces and became the hero that helped lead the planet Zou to victory. In order to help soften the effects of the poverty that continued even after the war's end, Fable engineered an F-Zero machine and commissioned Leon to race it. This machine boasts grip similar to that of a sleek feline digging its claws into the earth as it effortlessly accelerates.

This machine was built by Fable who was originally one of the military soldier attacking the planet "Zoo", but he felt an anger at his military's merciless attack, so he betrayed them and led the planet "Zoo" to victory as a hero. After the war, he cheered the people up by making a machine for Leon to participate in F-Zero. This machine has a great grip like an animal dashing with its sharp nail spiking the land.

Notes: The English rendition officially seen in F-Zero GX is spelled "Zou."

F-Zero Farukon Densetsu (Anime)[]

The Space Angler is seen piloted by Leon's Anime Universe counterpart in Lap 27.

F-Zero GP Legend (GBA game)[]

The Space Angler is an unlockable machine piloted by Leon.

F-Zero Climax[]

F-Zero Climax
(JP): マシンナンバー19

一般車両を改造しただけあって、操作性だけは極めて良好なマシン。 少々パワー不足だが、変身したレオンにはそんなハンデは関係ない。 意外とオススメのマシンだ。[1]

(English Translation): Machine Number 19.

As an ordinary vehicle remodeled, it has excellent maneuverability. While it may be underpowered compared to other F-Zero machines, the pilot Leon's sharp instincts are able to fill in any gaps. Surprisingly, it's an easy machine to recommend to newcomers.

Trivia[]

Mainverse:

  • The Space Angler is infamously bad in F-Zero GX's Grand Prix mode, more often than not ranking among the last 10 ranks. This is due to its very low acceleration, only slightly above average top speed and poor boost power in general, leaving it at a severe disadvantage. The AI's tendency to drift to one side for several seconds adds to the low performance.
    • This doesn't seem to affect it in Chapter 7 of the game's Story Mode, as it can be seen from time to time in the top 6 lead on the last few laps in Very Hard difficulty. However, this is likely more due to the Story Mode's use of unique stats and rubberbanding.
  • The Space Angler's combination of low weight and very low acceleration results in it having one of, if not the weakest shift-boosting capabilities in the game. As such, it gains barely any speed from this advanced technique.
  • In F-Zero GX, the Space Angler is one of the few machines to curve inwards when drifting to one side. It shares this oddity with Fire Stingray.
    • It also leads to weird landing from dives, as the machine will start drifting in midair after a short time.
    • This is due to the machine's shape, which is determined by a stat called tilt. In particular, the front of the ship is set to be particularly longer than the back.
  • The Space Angler is one of the four machines with a slightly higher drag stat, meaning its acceleration, top speed, boost, and speed retention are all lower than normal.
    • As a result, it is one of two machines that is not fastest at 100% machine setting. Deathborn's Dark Schneider being the other example.[2] It shares this exception with Deathborn's Dark Schneider.[2] Both machines achieve their highest base top speed at machine settings other than 100%. In Space Angler's case, it's 99%.[2]
  • The ANIM-01-7 engines the machine uses are likely proprietary to Fable Animal.
